Steps to Join a Board or Commission

Selectboard

With a recent resignation, there are now TWO open seats on Woodstock’s Selectboard.

Interim Appointments (Thursday May 28th)

The Selectboard, per 24 V.S.A. § 963, (a) When a vacancy occurs in any Town office, the Selectboard forthwith by appointment in writing shall fill such vacancy until an election is had;

The Selectboard plans to appoint individuals to BOTH open seats.

  1. Application deadline: May 26th, 2026
  2. Potential Candidate interviews: Thursday May 28th at 6:30PM Selectboard Meeting
  3. Potential appointments following interviews. 

Anyone appointed on Thursday May 28th that wishes to continue serving MUST run in the August 11 Special Election. 

There are two seats open, the first seat has a term ending March 2027. Anyone elected to this seat wishing to continue serving must run in the March 2027 Town Meeting.

The second seat has a term ending March 2028. 

Special Election (Tuesday August 11th, 2026)

Both seats will be filled by voters at a Special Election:

  1. Election date: Tuesday August 11th, 2026
  2. How to run: Interested Woodstock residents must obtain a petition from the Town Clerk’s Office and get the signature of 30 Woodstock residents.
  3. Petition deadline: Monday July 6th, 2026

Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee is a 5-member board with each member having a one-year term beginning and ending in March. They are appointed by the Selectboard.

Steps to Apply:

  3. Once application is confirmed- you will receive an email with the date and time of the Selectboard meeting you will need to attend.
  4. You will receive an email a few days before the meeting confirming your application is on the agenda.
  5. Once appointed by the board you will receive an appointment letter from the Municipal Manager’s office with instructions for how to get sworn.

Conservation Commission

The Conservation Commission is a 5-member board with each member having a 4-year term beginning and ending in March. They are appointed by the Town Selectboard and Village Trustees. All Conservation Members need to be Woodstock residents.

  3. Once application is confirmed a Community Development and Planning staff member will contact you and let you know the date of the next Conservation meeting.
  4. Once you are confirmed by the Conservation Commission you will receive an email with the date and time of the Town Selectboard and Village Trustee meetings respectively.
  5. You will receive an email a few days before the meetings confirming your application is on the agenda.
  6. Once appointed by both boards you will receive an appointment letter from the Municipal Manager’s office with instructions for how to get sworn in.
 

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission is a 5-member board with each member having a 4-year term beginning and ending in March. They are appointed by the Town Selectboard and Village Trustees. All Planning Commission members need to be Woodstock residents.

Town Development Review Board (TDRB)

The Town Development Review Board is a 5-member board with each member having a 3-year term beginning and ending in March. They are appointed by the Selectboard. All Town Development Review Board Members need to be Woodstock residents.

Village Historical Preservation Commission (VHPC)

The Village Historical Preservation Commission is a 5-member board with each member having a stager terms 1, 2 and 3 year term beginning and ending in March. They are appointed by the Village Trustees. All Village Historical Preservation Commission Members need to be Woodstock residents.

South Woodstock Design Advisory Board (SWDAC)

The South Woodstock Design Advisory Board is a 3-member Board with each member having a 3-year term beginning and ending in March. They are appointed by the Town Selectboard. All South Woodstock Design Advisory Board Members need to be Woodstock residents.
