The Town of Woodstock has noticed an uptick in unpermitted work recently. Permits are required for most construction and maintenance of buildings and structures. This includes activities such as new additions and alterations of current structures.
Permitting is not intended to encumber our community, but to protect it. The purpose of permitting is to ensure that projects are safe, structurally sound, and do not harm any surrounding natural habitats. Furthermore, permits serve to keep data on work done to homes and properties.
Please note that beginning work without the necessary permits can result in fines and extra fees. If you're unsure whether your project requires a permit or not, just ask!
