Abbie Sherman Named Woodstock’s First Director of Economic Development

The Town & Village of Woodstock are pleased to announce that Abbie Sherman will be

Woodstock’s first Director of Economic Development. This position was designed to address both opportunities and challenges facing our community, in direct response to the needs residents are voicing.

Woodstock is known for its small-town charm and historic character and serves a vibrant role as a tourist destination. However, the qualities that make Woodstock special also bring unique challenges: securing housing availability and affordability, preserving the village’s character, and adapting to a changing climate. The creation of this role reflects the town’s commitment to addressing these realities and planning for long-term economic vitality.

A lifelong Vermonter and current Randolph resident, Sherman has a longstanding passion for public service in the Green Mountain State. She has over two decades of experience, including 13 years in municipal leadership and extensive work in state-level economic development. She has served as President of both the Vermont and New England States’ Government Finance Officers’ Associations as well as Executive Director of the Vermont Economic Progress Council, overseeing the state’s primary economic incentive programs and building partnerships with municipalities, businesses, and state leaders. Most recently, she served as Public Works Director for the Town of Killington where she managed major infrastructure projects, including the Tax Increment Financing Districts and disaster recovery efforts.

As Director of Economic Development, Sherman will lead efforts to expand housing opportunities, support sustainable tourism, and foster meaningful partnerships. Her priority will be to balance the demands of tourism with the everyday needs of those who call Woodstock home. Her work will involve close collaboration with local boards, business owners, and

community organizations. Eager to start with Woodstock, Abbie adds, “I am incredibly excited to begin this new position. I look forward to getting to know the people and businesses and using my skills and experience to contribute to Woodstock’s vitality.”

“We are excited to welcome Abbie to Woodstock,” said Municipal Manager Eric Duffy. “Her proven ability to bring people together and deliver results will be key in addressing development hurdles while building on our strengths. Teamwork is crucial in building a more resilient

Woodstock and Abbie’s leadership will help us ensure that we can thrive as a local community while continuing to be one treasured by visitors.”
