Woodstock Village Trustees Personnel Hearing - March 2nd, 2026

The Woodstock Village Board of Trustees will hold a personnel hearing for Woodstock Police Chief Joe Swanson on Monday, March 2nd beginning at 9:00am at the Woodstock Masonic Lodge located at 30 Central St in Woodstock. The media may enter beginning at 8:00, the public may enter beginning at 8:30am.

In the event that the hearing is not complete by 5pm, it will resume at 9am on March 3rd at the same location.

This is not a standard public meeting of the Board of Trustees. This is an employment hearing which is usually conducted in a closed executive session. In accordance with Vermont law, an employee may request the hearing be publicly held. Mr. Swanson has made this request. Members of the public may attend and watch the proceedings but may not participate in any way. There will be no opportunity for public questions or comments.

The hearing will be streamed and recorded via Zoom by the Village of Woodstock in partnership with Woodstock Community Television (WCTV).

Seating for the public will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. WiFi will not be available on site.

All attendees will be asked to sign in for inclusion in the official meeting minutes. Attendees will also be asked to read and sign-off on the Rules of Attendance.

In order to preserve the integrity of the hearings, the media and public will be asked to limit  entering and leaving the hearing room until designated breaks. We expect to take breaks every hour and a half to two hours.

At the completion of the hearing, the Trustees will begin deliberations and will issue a written decision within two weeks to the legal representatives of Chief Swanson and to the Village of Woodstock. In accordance with municipal policy, the decision will not be made available to the public. Chief Swanson may share the decision if he chooses as it is part of his personnel record.

Parking is available for the public and media at East End Park and on the street along Route 4/Pleasant St./Central St. Please do not park in the adjoining parking lot as the spaces are reserved for Simmons House and Ottauquechee Health Center.
