RECYCLING & SOLID WASTE DISPOSAL

SOLID WASTE The Greater Upper Valley Solid Waste Management District is an organization of ten local towns to work together on waste management issues.  The GUVSWD runs collection programs for hard to dispose of items such as tires, electronics and household hazardous wastes and has a certified landfill site in North Hartland that will provide cost effective waste disposal for member towns.  The current schedule of events and guide to disposal of just about anything can be found at http://www.guvswd.org.  They can be contacted at 802-296-3688 or email guvswd@valley.net with any waste disposal or recycling questions. The GUVSWD also has a contract with the Hartford Transfer station that allows district residents to use that facility.  Details are on the GUVSWD website. To those residents who dispose of their trash at the Hartford Transfer Station; the Town of Hartford no longer allows the household user to weigh in on the vehicle scales.  The attendant collects one coupon per bag of trash.  The maximum weight that one coupon is good for is thirty pounds.  It is in your best interest to squeeze as close to thirty pounds in each bag that you dispose of as you possibly can. Residents may purchase both solid waste permits for the Hartford Transfer Station and ten-punch coupons at the Woodstock Town Clerk's office. RECYCLING The Town of Woodstock has a mandatory recycling ordinance that requires all property owners in Woodstock to recycle glass, paper, newspaper, cardboard, steel cans and aluminum cans.  Your trash disposal contractor is obligated to collect and recycle these materials for you and you are obligated to separate them out for collection.  If you choose to dispose of your own trash at the transfer station in Hartford, you must dispose of the recyclable materials in the recycling center.
